Tandem Center for Shared Business Success is a startup nonprofit initiative on a mission.

We offer pathways for business success through profit sharing and direct employee ownership that lead to shared prosperity and stronger communities.

Our Approach

At Tandem, we believe in the power of collaboration and sharing success. We provide education and technical assistance to businesses, enabling them to thrive in ways that benefit owners, employees, and other stakeholders. Our approach is rooted in two proven shared business success programs:

  • Profit Sharing: Cultivate a culture of opportunity by sharing the reward that comes from increased productivity and hard work. It’s proven that when profit sharing is adopted into a workplace, engagement increases, leading to greater profitability and company success.

  • Direct Employee Ownership: Build a company of owners who are invested in creating generational, lasting success for the business. This ownership mindset will allow each member of the company to build wealth over the long term, leading to an entrepreneurial culture that relies on collective success.

Why It Works

Studies have shown that companies implementing these programs experience heightened employee motivation, improved customer service, and increased innovation, which leads to overall business success.

By working in tandem with each other, everyone wins.

Success Story

Cargas, an employee-owned software company in Downtown Lancaster, Pennsylvania, exemplifies the benefit of shared business success programs. Since its inception in 1988, Cargas has fostered a culture of transparency through open book management. In 1996, they added cash profit sharing, which accelerated their growth, and implemented direct employee ownership in 1998.

Today, with nearly 200 employees, Cargas is majority-owned by the second generation of employee-owners, with the third generation planning to continue the legacy. This multi-generational example highlights the effectiveness these programs can bring to your company.

Our Vision

We envision a future where businesses across industries and phases of development adopt shared business success programs. Through partnerships with organizations like ASSETS, The High Center at Elizabethtown College, and the Lancaster Chamber, we are working to make this happen in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. After we’ve made significant progress in Lancaster, we plan to expand nationally with both shared business success programs.
